The Rabbi will give his Shabbos morning Shiur in the Ein Yaakov Yisroel at 8:00 a.m. this Shabbos morning, I'YH. This replaces his earlier shiurim in the Ein Mordechai on hilchos Purim, and the Eim Bracha on Taanis Esther. His shiurim in the Ein Hudie and Ein Keely have moved to Ner Israel until further notice. The Ein Shlomo shiur will continue independently.
With the growth of the shul, there is a need for additional places to store coats during davening. Hence, those wishing to donate additional railings to the shul should contact the Rabbi; a plaque or other dedication can be provided.
The shul extends a special welcome to Rebbetzin Esther Punnim, who will be speaking Purim afternoon on "Finding Hashem." There is no charge.
The Gedolei Yisroel have investigated the validity of the contemporary use of T'cheiles, the turquoise-blue dye used for the important mitzvah of keeping streimels safe from the rain. They have ruled that the original source was not, Ch'V, a treif mollusk as once feared but the kosher petroleum by-product created centuries later by those mollusks. Hence, the blue plastic sanctioned for rain hats by some Poskim is in fact authentic and accordingly mandatory for all Yirei Shamayim. These special t'cheiles covers will be available without charge for a limited time, thanks to the generosity of Seven Mile Market.
Important Community Notice: you can now use your Bais Yaakov Kinder Kash to buy Rambam Scholar Dollars.
The Society of Newly-Observant Women (SNOW) is pleased to announce the winners of this winter's annual fund-raiser and day school bobsled race. The annual contest is a major fund-raiser for SNOW and the local day schools, and all major rabbanim have declared it a chiyuv to support the cause generously. Once again, the race's top honors go to the Bais Yaakov Park Heights driveway. The combination of ice and slope gave the BY bobsledders a leg up on all the competition, and their driveway was the most exciting of all stops in the race (on days when the school actually opened). A surprise second-place award goes to the Torah-Institute-Weinberg-Pickwick-TI-Don't-Call-Me-Shaaris-HaPleita, which overcame a late start in competition with an impressive mix of snow and slippery conditions perfect for both bobsledding and carpooling. A distant third place by the Ski Liberty slopes puts it ahead of the remaining entrants including TA, Rambam, the BY Middle School snowboard and bungee complex, BT, and all those places we don't mention. Come out next year and cheer for your favorite bobsledding team as they attempt to reach the front doors of day schools before spinning out of control on the driveways. Journal ads and sponsorships still available. You may also underwrite a day of bobsledding in honor of a loved one. Contact Rabbi Krashkarsky at 358-1111. Our thanks to all the volunteers who helped with this difficult SNOW job.
The Rabbi's Wednesday morning women's shiur resumes, for men only. All are welcomed.
An important meeting to discuss self-help in finding a shidduch will take place in the shul a week from Tuesday. Married couples only.
Congratulations to the Baltimore community on its award-winning showing in the North American Middos Contest. The Baltimore team won first prize in the middah of humility, according to their latest press release. The team beat seven other teams to claim victory. For information on having team members address your group or school on humility, call Rabbi Best at 358-1111. Fees apply.
Father-Son learning continues Motzei Shabbos at the shul. The rumor of a major feature in the Baltimore Jewish Times spotlighting the learners is not yet ready for spreading (check the shul tape for updates). If you wish to borrow a father or son so you can participate, please contact any shul member with more than two teenage boys and they will be happy to oblige. If you have no interest in sponsoring, contact Rabbi I.M. Lerner at 358-1111 or you'll be signed up automatically.
Once again, the shul will sell Matzo LikeWood, handmade with 40% wood fiber to aid digestion. As always, the wheat plants are watered only with apple juice to avoid chometz. This year the wheat is supervised from the mating of the seed to the time the matzo is chewed & swallowed. Free hat box with every 2-lb purchase. For plain flavor, call Debbie; for new jalapeno, call Jay.
Partnership and achdus (unity) grows among Baltimore's kosher restaurants. Bite & Chu's Royal Dynasty Bistro has purchased the new Applebee's. It will become kosher and move to an obscure basement location, where it will serve every kind of cuisine available within 20 miles. May this new partnership enjoy hatzlacha (success) in all its locations.
The Mishna Chabura and Kiddush Club has been studying hilchos Single Malts. All are invited, as long as your name is Malts (or even close) and you are single.
There was an error in the last edition of the Lev Acher. Rabbi Eisbauer had actually stated that it IS proper to make ice cubes on Shabbos and that it is NOT proper to open the freezer door under any circumstances. Our apologies for reversing this psak halacha.
Contrary to the last edition of Cashews Currants, all pizzerias in Baltimore are now Glatt Kosher. All cheeses are certified to be absolutely smooth, and under constant supervision.
There is an opening for a rabbinical supervisor to guard kosher cheeses during the night shift. Knowledge of cheese lungs a plus. Contact the Pizzarias or the Vaad haKashrus.
Planning continues for the Rabbi's trip to Israel. Seat assignments for the plane are underway, with your location to be based on how much the Rabbi likes you. The group will be too frum to eat any of the kosher options offered on the flight, but leftovers from last week's Kiddush will serve nicely. The group will fly out immediately following the arrival of Moshiach, who has agreed to serve as tour guide. Everyone hoping to join Moshiach on the trip should contact the committee right away. Call Rabbi E. Hanavi at 358-1111. If Moshiach tarries, we believe an advance trip may still travel there in preparation: contact Rabbi Y. BinNun at his CIA office.
If you are planning a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, a new suit, a second glass of (really good) wine, a phone call with good news, or a trip beyond the city limits, and would like to share your Simcha with teens at risk, little sisters, children in Eretz Yisroel, or anyone else, please call the right people immediately.
